Community Projects
Since 1934 our Club has been responsible for many initiatives in the town, including the financing of a Social Centre for the Blind and the setting up of the local volunteer service.  We continue to have close links with the community, in addition to those described on the Youth page.

The Blind Club

On the fourth Monday of each month Club members drive sight-impaired members of the local community to entertainment and refreshments at the Blind Centre in Alston Road.  Members of our Rotaract Club often provide the entertainment in the form of a quiz.

Kids Out

Every June some of our members drive children and their helpers from a local school to Whipsnade Wildlife Park for a day of fun.  This is a national initiative by Rotary.

The picture was taken by one of our members and won the Rotary photographic competition.

Carol Service and Tea
Each December we drive elderly people from the care homes to a Christmas Carol service, followed by a tea party.  “Christmas starts here” is a comment we often hear.
Fund Raising
When disaster strikes our members are among the first to organise local street collections to raise funds to help those affected.  Our efforts raised over £19 000 after the  Tsunami, and over £5 000 following the local explosion at the oil storage depot.

Stroke Awareness Day
In collaboration with the Stroke Association, and the with the help of trained volunteers, once a year we encourage people to have their blood pressure checked.  The aim is to reduce the incidence of strokes among people of all ages.
